FAQ’s

WHERE IS THE OFFICE AND WHAT ARE THE HOURS? (top)
Once in Gatlinburg, go all the way through downtown to traffic light #10 (there is a Texaco station on the right corner). Turn right onto Ski Mountain Road and follow 1/4 mile up the mountain and our office will be on the right. We are open 7 days a week, 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day).  Hours are 8 am - 6 pm Saturday through Thursday, 8 am - 9 pm Friday.  We close at 2 pm on Thanksgiving Day and 6 pm Christmas Eve.

HOW DO I GET TO GATLINBURG FROM THE INTERSTATE? (top)
On I-40 take exit 407 (Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, turn right off of the exit ramp and follow this road (Highway 66) approximately 9 miles to Sevierville. In Sevierville, the first large intersection meets Highway 441. Go straight through onto Highway 441 South (you will pass the K-Mart on the right). Continue 13 miles on Highway 441 South through Pigeon Forge and
into Gatlinburg.

HOW DO I ARRANGE A LATE CHECK-IN? (top)
Call the office and you will be given instruction on what to do to get a key and map to the chalet. Late check-in is available only on reservations guaranteed with a deposit.

HOW FAR ARE THE CHALETS FROM PIGEON FORGE AND DOLLYWOOD AND THE NATIONAL PARK? (top)
All of our chalets are centrally located on Ski Mountain, above the city of Gatlinburg. The chalets range from 2.5 miles to 4 miles from our office which is at the bottom of Ski Mountain. From Gatlinburg, we are 6 miles to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. We can show you ways off of the mountain so you can avoid the traffic in downtown Gatlinburg during the busy season.

You couldn't be closer to the National Park; many of our chalets are actually on the boundary line. To drive into the park, simply come off of the mountain and you are at the entrance at light #10.  The Sugarlands Visitors Center and Park Headquarters and 2 miles inside the Park.

HOW ACCESSIBLE IS SKIING? (top)
The chalets are located on the same mountain as the ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg, you are within 10 minutes of the lodge in any of our chalets. There is no lodging at the resort. You have the option of either driving downtown and riding the aerial tram, or you can drive to the resort and park up there. Skiing typically starts around Christmas and runs through mid-February. If the weather cooperates, it could open up sooner or last longer. The resort has terrific snowmaking equipment, but it must be below freezing. Ski and snow board equipment rental is available at the resort.

WHEN DO THE LEAVES CHANGE AND WHEN DOES IT SNOW? (top)
The leaves usually peak anywhere from mid to late October and last into November. The crisp fall nights and spectacular color show make this a perfect time to kick back and enjoy the view by a crackling fire.

Snow is a little more unpredictable. The best chance for snow is after Christmas until mid-February. If you are lucky enough to see snow, be prepared for it. Four wheel drive vehicles or tire chains are required on the mountain when snow falls. Snow removal is usually prompt on the main Ski Mountain Road, but can take a few days on the side roads, so be ready!

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST AIRPORT? (top)
Gatlinburg is served by McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS) in Alcoa, Tennessee. It is about 40 miles from Gatlinburg and we recommend renting a car rather than taking a taxi (you will need the car to get up and down the mountain while here). Most major car rentals are located inside the airport terminal. To get here from the airport:

Turn left on Highway 129 toward Knoxville. Follow 2.5 miles to Hwy 168 (John Sevier Highway). Follow John Sevier Highway 7.2 miles to Highway 441 (Chapman Highway). Turn right onto Chapman Highway and follow 19 miles to Sevierville. Turn right at the second traffic light in Sevierville (signs will point you toward Gatlinburg). Follow 13 miles to Gatlinburg.

IS THERE FISHING CLOSE BY? (top)
None of the small streams on Ski Mountain are large enough to support fish, but there is great trout fishing in downtown Gatlinburg. As a matter of fact, Gatlinburg has a trout rearing program in a local facility and the streams are stocked every Thursday (no fishing on Thursday). Certain state and local regulations apply, so check with our Chamber of Commerce for specifics. You can obtain a trout fishing brochure that explains all the details by calling City Hall at 865-436-1400.

IS FIREWOOD PROVIDED? (top)
Firewood is provided at your chalet starting October 1 until March 31.
We do not provide kindling, but do have it for sale in the office.
Gas fireplaces are turned on October 1 and turned off on March 31.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING? (top)
All food and condiments (including salt & pepper); coffee filters, plastic wrap, foil, etc.; infant high chair, safety gates, portable crib; cleaning supplies for your own use (departure cleaning is included); laundry supplies if your unit has a washer/dryer; beach towels for the pool, in season.
